Kashf Foundation’s Flood Relief Drive 2010

Dear Friend and Supporter of Kashf

As you are aware, Pakistan has been seriously devastated by floods and over 14 million people have been displaced while 6 million require immediate help. The social and economic impact of this will be felt most by women, children and the elderly.  We cannot even begin to imagine the scale of this tragedy, eye witnesses who have been to the flood affected areas state that it is like the times of the independence in 1947, streams of people moving along the roads often with just one bundle of possession in their hands.  According to estimates by the United Nations impact of these floods is more than the damages of the 2004 Tsunami, the 2005 Pakistani earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake combined. Several agencies, local NGOs and private individuals have been getting relief goods across to the affected areas, however, despite best efforts many affectees have not been reached. The critical need of the hour is to provide relief to the millions displaced due to this national calamity.

Kashf Foundation has started a relief drive wherein relief packages will be distributed to 10,000 households in the most affected areas in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and South Punjab including Nowshera, Khushab, Bhera, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur. The details of the relief packages are given below, each package will sustain a household of 5 members for 4 weeks. We undertook similar relief efforts in 2005 where 10,000 families were provided food and shelter through our efforts and in 2009 to 1,000 internally displaced families.
